Less is More
By Eliza Bicknell of Lotus Petal yoga
When I sit my four year old down for a meal he sometimes says “I’m going to want more” before he has even taken one bite of anything. Often he tries to grab for food from someone else’s plate or the serving bowl before he has even touched his own food, claiming he wants more. More, more, more. Seems we always want more. More food certainly has led to all of the health problems we face as a nation. And then there’s the desire for more stuff. Think about your stuff for a minute, you organize, clean and reorganize your stuff. You buy, trade, sell and fix your. You fence in your stuff or create alarm systems to protect your stuff and buy insurance for your stuff. You worry constantly about your stuff. You watch television commercials and read ads that tell you you really need more stuff to be happy, and then you move your stuff from your house to your storage unit and back again as you have so much of it. Think about all the time that is consumed in dealing with stuff. Imagine what it would be like to be free from your stuff, to not have to worry about your things. When I imagine such a thing, I feel light, free. I propose that less really is more. Free from the constant struggle to maintain control over your stuff, you can simply be. You can be with yourself, you can be with others, you can, in essence be free. Consider a time when you gave something away from a place of joy. How did you feel? Giving is a wonderful act of sending out what we value and releasing what burdens us. Giving is creative, spontaneous, invigorating and also natural to human beings. Lao Tzu said ‘He who obtains has little. He who scatters has much.’ Think of all of your stuff. What are you holding on to? Projects you will never complete? Boxes you will never unpack? Things you know you need to say but haven’t yet had the courage to do so? I encourage you to let go. Let go of the stuff, the stuff that encumbers you and holds you back. Send out release and make room for whatever comes next.

As my dad used to say, the more stuff you have the more you have to worry about. I for one, don't need any more worry than necessary.
Do I need or do I want? That is the question, that we might ask ourselves as we check out our stuff. If, we don't need it, give it to someone who does! Thank you for sharing, Eliza. Best wishes. Frederick
If we all choose Less, then all of the marketing and television advertisers would be out of a Job.
